Library Receipts

I love getting books from the library and finding old check out receipts stuck in the pages - someone's left over book mark.  This tells you the last time someone has checked out that particular book, and maybe even how far they read in it.  The last book I checked out hadn't been read in 15 years.

I wonder which book has been sitting in the library the longest.  There are probably quite a few that have never been read (the numerous shelves of doctoral dissertations come to mind).  Poor lonely books.

  1. At ESU, they stamp the due date on a slip that's glued to the back of the book. I always look at it to see when the last time the book has been checked out. There was often a span of many, many years...

  2. ps -- The due date stamp includes the year. Otherwise, this wouldn't work...

  3. My record is a little over 150 years on a journal of sermons and experiences of English presbyterian ministers. Cool stuff inside.

  4. Well, Nick, you had a job cataloging old books for a summer, so of course you win that game.
